The way we collaborate in Emerald project is simple: We discuss an idea, each suggest some story and etudes, put them together, and choose. Then, Negin draws them, and Samira prints them as the final works. In each step, some details change, some ideas combine together, and the result is a mixture of all these talks and works. We quiet enjoy the process!

Medusa Myth
In Greek myth, she is the only mortal one, in three Gorgon sisters. She is
celebrated for her personal charms and beautiful locks. Neptune fall in love
with her, and obtained her favors in the temple of Minerva. This violation of
the sanctity of the temple provoked Minerva, and she cursed Medusa and her
sisters. According to Apollodorus, they
came into the world with snakes on their heads, instead of hair, with yellow
wings and brazen hands. Their bodies were also covered with impenetrable
scales, and their very looks had the power of killing or turning to stones.
From Lempriére’s
Classical Dictionary of Proper names mentioned in Ancient Authors Writ Large.
Ed. J. Lempriére and F.A. Wright. London: Routledge & Kegan Paul.
According to Camille Dumoulie, Medusa is characterized by paradox; both in
terms of the actual mythical stare, which turned men to stone, and in the
interpretations that have been given to it. The fascination that she exerts
arises from a combination of beauty and horror.
Her head was used, in Ancient times, as an apotropaic mask-a sort of
talisman which both killed and redeemed.

Project no.1: Emerald (Daily curse)
Emerald series are about the pressure of routine
daily life: struggling for the perfect image.
We seem to be so hypnotized by “the image” that culture or society has given us as general rules, so we mostly put a mask on our faces and replace our own personal dreams with what is considered by others as success, happiness or “appropriate”; While we ignore our inner dissatisfaction from all these struggle.
We do our best to make a beautiful image of us, that it is just "the skin deep".

Snakes in this series are also a reminder of Medusa myth; the curse: our wrong believes and expectations in today’s life; creeping under our life’s skin, changing our dreams, with the greed of materialism and success.

Sang Begins!
Sang Art Group idea started in autumn 2012. We (Samira & Negin) were discussing some series
of collaborative art experiences together, about subjectswe are personally
passionate about; while each lives in a different country; and each had
different backgrounds and abilities to put together and make some new
experiences. So, we named our little
group “Sang”; and it will be continued with projects, each called
by a different stone’s name.
